In The Wild
Weekend outdoor camps blending art, exploration, and curiosity.
Our Core
Values
The outlines of our programs philosophy.
Outdoor Immersion
Kids at TrailBreak SLC are encouraged to observe, explore, and connect deeply with their surroundings. Whether it's a curious bug on the trail or the changing shape of a cloud, our experiences nurture wonder and awareness in the outdoors. Instead of starting the learning process with facts, we let our kids ask questions to figure out how things work.
Creative Expression
Through nature-based art projects, storytelling, and open-ended materials, we empower kids to express themselves freely. Creativity isn’t something we teach, it's in every experience we give way to. We facilitate environments where kids can be messy, have fun, and learn something new.
Community & Confidence
TrailBreak kids collaborate, problem-solve, and build friendships in an space that’s supportive, inclusive, and just the right amount of wild. With and small team activities, they learn to trust themselves and each other. Practically everything we do involves teamwork, and we encourage activities that help kids learn to work together and communicate effectively.
Curiosity-Driven Learning
From animal tracks to water cycles to why trees bend in the wind, we let kids’ natural questions lead the day. Our leaders are facilitators, not lecturers — they guide kids through hands-on exploration, observation, and experimentation rooted in joy. We have outlines for how the day will go, what our main activities will be, and what rules have to be followed, but other than that, we let the kids take charge!

How TrailBreak
Took Root
TrailBreak grew from a love of wild places, creative minds, and learning that doesn’t sit still
TrailBreak SLC began with the idea that kids need to be more connected to both art and nature. They are both so fundamentally apart of what makes us human and can shape the lens we see the world through.
After leading backpacking trips from Sierra Nevada to Yellowstone along with working with kids in classrooms and afterschool programs, Lucas Stuart wanted to build a space where art and nature could come together. Where kids could ask their own questions, follow their curiosity, and create from what they see and feel.
